The Bhagalpur district agriculture department has started a comprehensive project to digitize land records and create a unified farmers’ registry. This effort aims to streamline access for local farmers to government schemes, subsidies, disaster relief, crop insurance, and bank loans.
Each farmer will receive a unique digital ID linked to their land holdings, and land parcels will be geo-mapped to build a complete digital profile.
The digitization process is introduced to reduce dependency on physical documents, speed up verification, and improve transparency in services such as PM Kisan Samman Nidhi and other agricultural support programs.
To enroll, farmers must submit Aadhaar details (linked with an active mobile number), land revenue receipts, ownership certificates, and a linked bank account, either online or at local village camps.
Up-to one lakh farmers’ land records are expected to be digitized under this registry in the initial phase.
The digital land registry will help the government plan and allocate resources more effectively. Farmers will gain faster and easier access to government benefits and financial services through a transparent digital system.
Bihar’s land records and registration system have been undergoing ongoing modernization, including online jamabandi access and e-mutation services available through government portals. Bihar's previously launched digital land record initiatives to improve transparency, land rights verification, and public ease of access to property information.
