A major bust on NCERT textbook piracy by Delhi Police on multiple raids on January 16–17, 2026. The police seized nearly 45,000 fake NCERT books, printing machines, paper reels, and printing plates, valued at approximately Rs 2 crore.
The three main accused are:
Sumit (35) – resident of North Chhajjupur, Shahdara
Vinod Jain (65) – resident of Preet Vihar
Kanishq (32) – resident of Yamuna Vihar
The fake textbook activity traced back to a godown in Daryaganj, they reportedly kept and supplied the counterfeit NCERT books.
The raids identified a printing facility in Jawli village in Loni, Ghaziabad, as a key center of pirated book production.
NCERT Publication Division officials — provided technical expertise and legal support to identify fake books and assist police raids.
Delhi Police Crime Branch – Anti-Robbery and Snatching Cell (ARSC) — led the intelligence-driven raids and arrests.
Additional police teams — conducted follow-up investigations at multiple premises linked to the racket.
Multiple FIRs have been registered under the Copyright Act, 1957 and provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to forgery and distribution of pirated materials.
NCERT has also filed FIRs against publishers/retailers selling pirated textbooks outside authorized channels.
