On 14 December 2025, Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead in their Brentwood, Los Angeles home.
Rob Reiner (78) — acclaimed actor and director known for films such as Stand by Me, This Is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride and When Harry Met Sally.
Michele Singer Reiner (70) — his wife, a photographer and producer.
Nick Reiner (32) — their son, charged with murdering them.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner ruled both deaths a homicide, listing multiple sharp force injuries as the cause.
Nick Reiner was arrested hours later near the University of Southern California and taken into custody without incident.
A special circumstance allegation — involving multiple murders and use of a dangerous weapon (knife) — has been added, which could lead to life imprisonment without parole or possibly the death penalty if pursued and convicted.
Nick’s first court appearance on 17 December 2025, he did not enter a plea. He appeared in shackles and wearing a suicide-prevention vest; his arraignment is scheduled for 7 January 2026.
Law enforcement and prosecutors have not yet disclosed the exact motive. The investigation by the LAPD’s homicide division remains active.
Nick’s siblings, including Romy and Jake Reiner, have described the family’s grief as unimaginable, emphasizing the profound loss of parents whom they called their “best friends.”
