Unnao gang rape case of 17 year old

In December 2019, a Delhi court convicted Kuldeep Singh Sengar of rape and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The victim alleged that she was raped by Kuldeep Singh Sengar, a then-BJP MLA, after she went with men on the pretext of a job. The case drew attention due to the extreme hardship faced by the survivor and her family.

In December 2025:
Recently, Delhi High Court suspended the jail term of Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the main convict in the Unnao rape case, granting him conditional bail under specific terms. This legal relief to Kuldeep has sparked significant controversy and raised questions against the judiciary system of India.

The CBI has decided to challenge the bail in the Supreme Court. The CBI has also criticized the suspension and is seeking judicial review at the highest level.

The survivor has voiced concerns about her personal safety, stating that she fears for her life and believes Kuldeep could harm her even outside jail, which is one reason she is seeking relocation and stronger protection.

The victim and family protested against the bail granted by the Delhi High Court and protested against it at India Gate. The family was detained by the police and sparked controversy.

Women’s rights activists, social organizations, and the survivor’s mother staged a demonstration outside the Delhi High Court to protest against the suspension of Sengar’s sentence and the bail decision. They raised slogans demanding justice and opposing the court order.
