On 26 December 2025 on the Kan-etsu Expressway in Gunma Prefecture, Japan, amid snowy winter weather, leading to at least one confirmed death and many injured.
The crash involved a series of more than 50 vehicles in a chain reaction collision due to snowy winter. One individual, about 77 years old from Tokyo died and more than 26 were injured, some in serious condition.
A fire broke out due to the collision involving multiple vehicles and the emergency response team took several hours to control the fire and clear the expressway.
