US President Trump has repeatedly stated the idea that the United States should have control or ownership over Greenland. This has reignited the debate about US intentions globally. After following recent military action in Venezuela.
With US intentions, Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said “enough is enough” and rejected the idea of the US acquiring Greenland. Greenland, a self-governing Danish territory.
The suggestion has been widely criticised internationally. Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and other European leaders have condemned Trump’s remarks, calling any threat to Greenland’s sovereignty unacceptable and urging respect for international law.
Denmark also issued a warning to the US that an attack on Greenland could end NATO.
Greenland lies between Europe and North America. The Arctic is a growing arena for strategic competition involving multiple countries such as the United States, Russia and China. Its location is crucial for missile defence, Arctic logistics, and monitoring Russian and Chinese movement in the region. Greenland's location makes it a major geopolitical prize.
