Ranchi | June 11, 2025 – During a high-level meeting in Ranchi, German Ambassador Dr. Philip Ackermann met with Chief Minister Hemant Soren to explore how Germany can collaborate with the state on clean mining technologies and sustainable industrial practices. Jharkhand may soon see a fresh wave of foreign investment in its coal sector.
The Ambassador spoke of Jharkhand’s rich coal heritage and said it shares many similarities with Germany’s own mining past. He highlighted Germany’s successful efforts in transforming old coal mines into green spaces, innovation parks, and energy hubs, and offering it as a model for India’s transition goals.
CM Hemant Soren welcomed the proposals and assured German investors full support in setting up operations in the state. He prioritized the government’s interest to balancing industrial development with environmental responsibility.
The meeting was also attended by Additional Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, senior officials from the Industries Department, and representatives from the German Embassy. Discussions covered areas like technical training, job creation, and opportunities for local partnerships.
While no formal agreement was signed, both sides expressed optimism about future cooperation. If successful, this partnership could bring in advanced technology, employment, and a more sustainable framework for Jharkhand’s coal-dependent regions.
Further developments are expected in the coming months as part of the ongoing Indo-German Green Development Partnership dialogue.
